These towers are eroded from extremely thin fins of Cutler sandstone, capped with Moenkopi sandstone, and caked with a stucco of red mud. The warm light of sunset on the red stucco makes them glow with amazing color while the decoration of snow adds complexity and interest to the scene on this unusually cold day. The fins are between 1,000 and 2,000 feet (300 and 610 m) long and separated from each other by about 1,000 feet (300 m). The tallest tower rises 900 feet (274 m) above its base.
