Saline Stream Meander, Death Valley
This abstract landscape photograph is a meandering stream in
California's Death Valley National Park. Such streams carry mineral salts
dissolved in rain water from the mountains to the valley floor. Since the average
rainfall is less two inches per year but the evaporation rate is 128 inches per
year the water quickly evaporates leaving behind white salt deposits.
