| Coyotes mate for life. Most do not breed until they are two years old and both parents hunt and feed the young. Only 5-20% of coyote pups survive their first year. 80% of those that do not live to be adults die because of human trapping, shooting, poisons, or other control methods. | |||

Another problem coyotes face is
"kindness" from unknowing and ignorant people who believe that
they are helping by feeding these wild animals. Feeding encourages
dependence upon human beings for food, and a steady diet of human food
is detrimental to the health of wild animals, bringing on long-term
complications such as liver damage and hair loss. The animals adapt
their behavior and begin to associate people with food. They begin to
beg for food and become increasingly bolder as they approach people.
Inevitably, somebody will be scratched, bitten or attacked by a hungry
animal which would then have to be hunted down and killed, often along
with others in the same area.
No matter how cute a wild animal is, PLEASE DO NOT FEED IT. |
