Mammoth Terraces, Mammoth Hot Springs

These terraces were created over thousands of years as hot water carrying dissolved calcium carbonate cools, depositing solid calcium carbonate. Algae living in the warm pools have tinted the travertine shades of brown, orange, red, and green.
