London Arch, Victoria, Australia

This photograph was captured early in the morning, well before sunrise. A long exposure time renders white capped breakers as mist and smooths the choppy surface of the sea.

London Arch is a natural arch on Victoria's coast that was formed by erosion, as were the other arches, bridges, and sea stacks along the coast. Before 1990 this formation was a complete double-span natural bridge, with the left span connected to the shoreline. It was then named London Bridge because of the similarity to its namesake. The arch closer to the shoreline collapsed unexpectedly on January 15, 1990, leaving two tourists, who were later rescued by helicopter, stranded on the remaining span.
