Immature Bald Eagle, "On the Hunt"
This immature bald eagle was photographed as it hunted willets and other small
shore birds. Bald eagles get their classic white head and tail feathers only
when they mature at between three and five years of age. In this case immature
does not mean small. Juvenile and adult bald eagles both have a 7 foot wingspan
and weigh between 7 and 14 pounds.
