Here Comes the Sun, Victoria, Australia

I began my journey in dense fog early on a rainy morning.
Travelling up the mountainside I rose above the fog and arrived to a clear scene
not long before the sun would rise above the eastern horizon. Like the sun and I, the
fog was also rising, and within a
minute or so it completely obscured the entire scene.
It could take all morning for the fog to clear, and a clear sky would
ruin the photograph with harsh shadows and directional high contrast light regardless. Fortunately fog typically varies in density and some parts
of it can be almost clear. My tripod and I
waited in ankle deep water for
more than an hour before a void of the correct density, size and shape
drifted through. The one that created this scene was the first to meet all of my
criteria. In particular, it did not expose any clear blue sky and
direct sunlight waiting just beyond a thinning veil toward the east (left).
That was critical to maintain the atmosphere in this scene.
