Floating Rock Cascade, Autumn

I found this beautiful little cascade at dawn in a heavy fog. In no hurry I slowly set up my camera equipment and waited as the fog began lifting. I captured this photograph when it was not much higher than the trees in the surrounding forest. Acting as a gigantic diffuser, this fog provided the perfect shadowless light for this scene. Without it, harsh directional light from the left rear of the image would partially backlight the "floating" rock, making a scene I would not have stopped to capture. I enjoyed the serenity of this stream, lingering for a while before wandering the relatively level streamside trails in this area. It was a perfect morning.
