Early Spring Waterfall, Victoria, Australia

Given its position, orientation, and the time of year, I had no idea when the best light would illuminate this waterfall. I first visited in the late afternoon after a long drive to the area. I did not like what I saw, so I stayed until just past sunset and got a few photographs that would be alright if I couldn't get anything better.

The next morning I went to a different waterfall where I was greeted by fog that was nearly opaque. The air was still so the fog lremained unchanged until the sun came up directly behind the waterfall. It was the worst possible situation for a photograph, but I learned that just before or immediately after sunset would be the optimal time for a photograph, assuming good weather.

I then returned to the waterfall above. By then it was around 7:30 a.m., and the light was horrible. That meant that the only time a good photograph would be possible would be immediately before sunrise. I had now spent nearly a full day only to learn when to photograph the waterfalls, *if* the weather held. 

The photograph above was captured the next morning, before sunrise, on the day I had to leave the area for the southern coast. Within an hour of capturing it the weather turned awful, with extremely high winds, rain, and clouds.
