Abajo Mountains, Sunset Storm
As the sun sets a large thunderstorm approaches the Abajo Mountains, forty-five
miles away. It has already extinguished most light in the surrounding red rock
canyons and fierce winds buffet the entire area, making photography quite
difficult. Numerous attempts to get a sharp and high quality capture of this
rapidly changing scene were made, using a shutter speed of a half second with an
aperture setting of F/10 at ISO 100. The effort paid off, yielding the image
above. The vast expanse of sky and canyons make the massive 11,360 foot (3,463
m) high mountains seem diminutive.
