White River Falls, Oregon

The wild and scenic White River plunges about 90 feet (27 m) from a basalt shelf at White River Falls. The river is named for its milky white color in late summer when it carrys glacial "flour", which is essentially pulverized rock, from the White River Glacier on Mount Hood. The image above was captured in June when the water was still running crystal clear from snow melt. White River Falls exists in a rather arid climate but the immediate surroundings have dashes of vivid green courtesy of mist from the falls.
