Gypsum Dunes, Dusk, New Mexico

Gypsum Dunes, Dusk, New Mexico

The glistening white sands in this image are composed of nearly pure gypsum. They have engulfed 275 square miles of desert creating the largest gypsum dune field on earth in New Mexico's Tularosa Basin. This image was captured from the top of a dune that was about 60 feet high as darkness descended on the area.
