Triple Falls, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon
This 135 foot (41 m) high waterfall sits in a lush green alcove 740 feet (226 m)
up the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. Contrary to its name "Triple",
the falls is technically a "triplet" because the three falls are not stacked
vertically. The Columbia River Gorge is a canyon of the Columbia River that is
up to 4,000 feet (1,200 m) deep, more than 80 miles (130 km) long, and an
average of 3 miles (5 km) wide. It is home to 75 waterfalls, 24 endangered
species, 70,000 people and 800 species of wildflowers, 13 of which are found
only in the gorge. The wide range of elevation and precipitation makes the
Columbia River Gorge an extremely diverse, beautiful, and dynamic place.
