Saline Stream and Pool, Death Valley
This meandering saline stream and pool were photographed from Dante's View in
California's Death Valley National Park. Rains carry mineral salts to the valley
floor where the water quickly evaporates, concentrating the minerals. This makes
the lowest parts of the valley a chemical desert where few things can survive.
The pool lies at roughly 250 feet below sea level and the vantage point of this
photograph is about 5700 feet higher.
