Colored Stones, Lake McDonald, Glacier National Park

This photograph was taken near the edge of Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park through several inches of very clear water. Over thousands of years, stones colored by various minerals have washed down from the surrounding mountains, collecting on the lake bottom. They have been polished and rounded by the action of the water.
