Sunrise Mist, Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Mist rising from the valley floor catches the first glow of a sunrise in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. The park contains one of the largest areas of deciduous old growth forest in North America and about 10,000 species of plants and animals are known to live in there. It was designated an International Biosphere Reserve in 1976, was certified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, and became a part of the Southern Appalachian Biosphere Reserve in 1988.
