After the Storm, Deschutes National Forest, Oregon
We were caught in a severe thunderstorm while scouting photographs in the Deschutes National Forest on June 12, 2006. The storm produced golf ball sized hail in nearby Bend that damaged homes and vehicles, and defoliated many trees. The associated rain inundated many streets, making them impassable. We were more fortunate. At our location there was heavy rain and the storm dumped an inch or so of smaller hail. The image above was captured while it was still raining, after the worst of the storm subsided, but before the area was enveloped in thick fog.
