Temples of the Sun and Moon, Cathedral Valley
This image was made as the first light of the day strikes the Temple of the Sun (background) and the Temple of the Moon (foreground) in Capitol Reef National Park's Cathedral Valley. The dramatic golden light lasted only long enough to make the long and difficult pre-dawn trip worthwhile. My first attempt to get this image two years earlier was met with a heavily overcast sky at sunrise, and produced no good images. The two monuments each have a similar height of about 400 feet, but the distance between them and the moderately wide angle perspective of this photograph make the Temple of the Sun appear smaller.
