Western Iris
This flower gets its name from the Greek goddess of the rainbow, Iris. Blooming in May and June, the Western Iris is often found in wet grassy meadows of western North America. The scientific name of this flower is Iris missouriensis, but it is also known as the Rocky Mountain Iris, and western blue flag. The plant shown here was photographed under natural light in Yellowstone National Park.
