What the sign below does not say is that the entire forest in which the giant spruce tree lived was logged long ago, and this one was left standing as a tourist attraction. Directly behind the tree, in place of a forest beyond imagination, is a golf course. In front of the tree is the "Rain Forest" resort consisting of a motel, cabins, campground, some young trees and brush. Surprisingly, many people visit this tree without even wondering why it is the only big tree in the entire area.
