Pyramid Rock
Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia

This photograph shows Phillip Island's Pyramid Rock just after sunrise on a calm February morning. Pyramid Rock is a remnant of a lava flow that rests on Woolamai Granite.  An extensive area of this granite is exposed at low tide. It is one of the few locations on Phillip Island where the lava flows are either absent or very thin, which means the area was a high spot in the pre-volcanic landscape.
